Why this exists

It started with a simple problem: I was learning things from my property faster than I could keep track of them.

A plant would struggle in one corner. Clover would take off somewhere else. A rain barrel would overflow exactly the way I hoped. A groundhog would destroy the herbs. I would notice all of it, make mental notes, and then weeks later forget the details.

Most land projects unfold slowly. You notice things, make small changes, forget details, try again, and learn over seasons. RestorationOS exists to help capture that memory.

It should help answer:

  • What did I notice here last month?
  • What did I plant?
  • What worked?
  • What failed?
  • What should I check next?
  • How has this place changed over time?

The first living laboratory

The first version is being built around a real place: 25 Thomas. It is a small property, not a giant farm. But it already has many of the patterns that matter.

This isn't starting as abstract software. It's being built around a real yard, with all of its quirks and experiments:

  • Mulch and clover paths
  • Hugel mounds
  • Espalier fruit trees
  • A rain barrel
  • A conversation pit
  • A concrete table and future grape pergola
  • Native grasses
  • Ongoing experiments with water, soil, plants, and design

If the software can help care for one complicated little yard, it can eventually grow toward larger land restoration projects.

Property Memory

The first product is Property Memory. You open a map of your place, tap where you are, and record what you noticed.

Property Memory lets you:

  • Tap a zone on a map
  • Add a memory
  • Upload photos
  • Extract observations
  • Create tasks
  • See a timeline of changes

Remember everything your land teaches you.

The bigger dream

Over time, RestorationOS may grow into a broader operating system for ecological restoration. It could eventually include:

  • Field walks
  • Fixed photo stations
  • AI-assisted map updates
  • Property graphs
  • Land acquisition tools
  • Restoration financing tools
  • Climate resilience planning
  • Open-source physical restoration modules
  • Adjacent parcel interlock standards

But the first goal is humbler: make one real property easier to understand, improve, and love.
